Diet
• Eat a balanced, healthy diet rich in alkaline forming foods and low in acidic foods.
• Include in the diet fresh pineapple (which contains bromelain) and fresh paw paw (which contains papain). These are great sources of digestive enzymes.
• Add acidophilus yogurt to the diet.
• Try using brown rice or barley broth (Use 5 parts water to 1 part grain and boil mixture, uncovered for 10 minutes) Strain, cool the liquid and drink throughout the day.
• Avoid caffeine, carbonated beverages, fried foods, potato chips, snack foods, sugar and salty or spiced foods. Never eat if you are upset or over-tired.
Vitamins and Nutrients
• Glutamine helps to repair intestines damaged by chemotherapy.
• Bromelain acts as a proteolytic digestive enzyme, which helps with the absorption of nutrients from foods. It also has anti-inflammatory properties to help reduce inflammation.
• Acidophilus is necessary for normal digestion (1/2 hour before meals or as directed).
• Vitamin  complex plus extra vitamin Bl and Â12 are essential for normal digestion.
Herbs
• Slippery Elm — take up to 5 grams of powdered bark in capsules, or mix with water, before meals.
• Anise seeds help to relieve a sour stomach – chew the whole seeds or grind and sprinkle on food.
• Other useful herbs include calamus, lemon balm and fennel.

Diet
Eating a healthy, wholesome diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, nuts and seeds, vegetable and fruit juices will help to maintain healthy circulation to the head area. Eat foods rich in silica, folic acid and biotin, including brewers yeast, sunflower seeds, walnuts, oats, lentils, soybeans and brown rice.
Vitamins and Nutrients
• Folic acid (800 meg/day) is very important.
• Co-enzyme Q10 up to 270 mg/day enhances oxygenation throughout the body.
• Lipoic acid is also beneficial.
• A good  complex vitamin supplement rich in vitamin B3, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, biotin and inositol is important for hair growth and health.
• Vitamin Ñ (3000 to 5000 mg/day) aids in improving circulation to the scalp.
• Vitamin E and zinc are also very useful.
• L-cysteine and L-methionine may prevent hair from falling out.
Massage
• Regular head massage will aid in good blood circulation to the head.
Yoga
• Certain yoga poses will help to maintain good circulation to the head, particularly the shoulder stand and the headstand postures. A slant board does a similar job.
Note
• With certain types of chemotherapy drugs, it is impossible to prevent hair loss. The cytotoxic drugs are designed to kill rapidly dividing cells in the body. The hair has some of the fastest dividing cells. However, after chemotherapy, hair often grows back thicker, healthier and shinier.
