It’s easy to ignore some Body Signals, especially when they’re vague. For instance, if you have a mild vaginal discharge and have had yeast infections in the past, you might dismiss this symptom because it usually clears up in a day or two anyway. If you also feel a bit bloated and experience malaise, you may just figure that it’s “that time of the month,” even if it isn’t, and wait for it to pass.

The fact is, if you have a vaginal discharge that is accompanied by bloating and a general feeling of discontent and malaise, you need to see your doctor immediately. These are signs of ovarian cancer, which is the third most common form of gynecological cancer but also the most deadly.

The reason why ovarian cancer is so deadly is that many times a woman will show no symptoms of the disease until the cancer has spread. And if you’re obese, have gone through menopause early, and eat a high-fat diet, you’re more at risk. Using a hormone-based contraceptive such as the Pill or Depo-Provera and having had children decrease your risk of contracting this disease.
