Drugs

«What have I done wrong? Must have done something wrong. Could never have imagined that this would have happened. He’s on drugs. The hard stuff, too. Never have thought it possible. What will happen to him? How will his life end up? He had so much to look forward to. What am I to do?

‘What will the other parents think? What will they say?»

If we can manage the associated problem, ‘What will the neighbors think?’, there is a better chance of avoiding stress from the major problem. On the other hand, if the boy sees that we are tense and anxious about it, our chances of getting close enough to help him are more remote.

An unfaithful husband

«After all these years, I have only just discovered. Unfaithful. And for quite a long time. Thought things were all right between us. Not like they were twenty years ago. But all right. What a fool! What a fool I am! And our best friends seem to have known all the time. I can’t face up to them. I don’t know how to meet them. »

The associated problem, her loss of face with her friends, clearly adds to the effect of the major problem of how to cope with her unfaithful husband.
