Each day when he came home from work, Bryan would grab Sue’s behind as she stood over the stove, pinch her while making a “beep-peep” noise, kiss her, and exclaim. “Gal, I love you as much as the day I met you.” And she would give him a mock frown and say, “Stop that, you idiot—I’ll spill the peas.” At night they would sit cuddled together to watch television. Once a week—sometimes twice—they would have sex. “He’s like an ol’ puppydog,” Sue would say. “And she’s like a cat in heat,” he would say, winking. Their sex life, like their life in general, was quite ordinary—but its quality was passionate. They did not have high expectations but instead fully enjoyed the simple comfort of their companionship, their son’s development, their friends, their hobbies, and their cabin at the lake.
